Many people around the world believe in luck. They think that good luck can make them happy and successful. So they try to attract good luck with special objects. These lucky objects are different in each culture.

세계의 많은 사람들이 행운을 믿고 있다. 그들은 좋은 운이 자신들을 행복하고, 성공적으로 만들어 준다고 생각한다. 따라서 그들은 특별한 물건들을 이용하여 행운을 끌어들이려고 노력한다. 이러한 럭키 참들은 각 문화마다 다르다.

In some cultures, people keep lucky objects at home. 

몇몇 문화권에서는 행운의 물건들을 집 안에 두기도 한다. 

In the UK, people hang a horseshoe on the wall. They believe that it brings good luck and protects their house. But the open part of the horseshoe must point up, not down.

영국에서는 말발굽을 벽에 걸여 둔다. 영국인들은 이 말발굽이 행운을 가져다주며, 그들의 집을 지켜준다고 믿는다. 그러나 말발굽의 열린 부분이 반드시 아래가 아닌 위를 향해야 한다.

Similarly, Chinese people hang a red paper lantern over the front door. They hope that it will bring happiness and stop bad luck. 

이와 유사하게, 중국인들은 적색 종이등을 현관 윗 부분에 걸어 둔다. 그들은 이것이 행복을 가져다주며, 나쁜 운을 막아준다고 믿는다. 

In the Middle East, people keep a special object called a "Hamsa" at home. A hamsa looks like a hand with an eye on it. They believe that it brings good luck and drives out evil.

중동 지역에서는 '함사'라고 부르는 특별한 물건을 집에 보관한다. 함사는 마치 손 위에 눈이 있는 것처럼 생겼다. 그들은 함사가 행운을 가져다주며, 악마를 내쫓는다고 믿는다.

People can also find lucky objects outdoors. It is lucky pick up coins from the street in the United States. 

또한 사람들은 행운을 집 밖에서도 찾을 수 있다. 미국에서 길을 가다 동전을 줍는다는 것은 행운이다.(다른 나라도 마찬가지 아님?)

Irish people look for lucky four-leaf clovers in the grass. If they find one, they keep it for good luck. 

아일랜드 사람들은 풀 속에서 네잎클로버를 찾는다. 만일 그것을 찾는다면, 행운을 위해 그것을 보관한다. 

Lastly, Russian people hope for a bird dropping to fall on them. They think that the dropping brings good luck and wealth.

마지막으로, 러시아 사람들은 새똥이 자기 위로 떨어지기를 바란다. 그들은 그것이 행운과 부를 가져온다고 믿는다.
