한국에서도 성공적으로 전시된 바 있는 러버덕. 

그 사랑스러운 모습에 Lover duck으로 생각할 수도 있겠지만, Rubber duck이다. 고무로 만들어졌거든...

A cute, yellow rubber duck floats on the water, But this one is different. It is 32 meters tall. A Dutch artist named Florentijn Hofman made it for an art project.

귀엽고 노란 러버덕이 물 위에 떠 있다. 그러나 이 러버덕은 뭔가 다르다. 이는 32미터에 달한다. 네덜란드의 한 예술가 플로렌타인 호프만이 예술 프로젝트를 위해 러버덕을 만들었다.

He wanted his rubber duck to cheer up the world. Therefore, he sent it on a tour called “Spreading Joy around the World.”

플로렌타인 호프만은 자신이 만든 러버덕이 전 세계 사람들을 응원해주기를 원했다. 그래서 그는 러버덕을 “전 세계에 즐거움을 퍼트리다”라는 이름으로 전 세계에 보냈다.

 

At first, Hofman sent his giant rubber duck to 14 cities. The tour was a great success. So he decided to send the duck to more cities.

처음에 호프만은 자신의 거대한 러버덕을 14개의 도시로 보내었다. 투어가 엄청난 성공을 거두자, 그는 더 많은 도시에 자신의 러버덕을 보내기로 하였다.

 

Hofman believes that it can heal people. He said, “The rubber duck lowers people’s stress. It lets them remember being a child. And it is soft and friendly, so it is good for people of all ages.”

호프만은 러버덕이 사람들을 힐링시킬 수 있다고 믿는다. 그는 “러버덕은 사람들의 스트레스를 낮춰주며, 사람들로 하여금 어린시절을 회상할 수 있도록 해준다. 또한 이는 부드럽고 친근해서 남녀노소 누구나 좋아한다.” 고 말했다.

 

In every city, the rubber duck causes excitement. Best of all, it brings people together. Thousands of people come and take picture in front of it. Its joyful appearance makes people of all cultures smile.

모든 도시에서 러버덕은 흥분을 일으켰다. 무엇보다도, 이는 사람들을 모이게 한다. 수천 명의 사람들이 러버덕을 보기 위해 오고, 그 앞에서 사진을 찍는다. 이 즐거운 광경이 모든 문화권의 사람들을 웃게 만든다.
