<Animals’ Amazing Eyesight>

How well can animals see? Different animals have different kinds of eyesight. Importantly, their vision type helps them survive.

Hunting animals usually have excellent eyesight. For example, hawks can see clearly over long distances. While a hawk is flying, it can spot a rabbit two kilometers away. Also, cats have the best night vision of all mammals. In the dark, their pupils widen to let in more light. So they can easily see a mouse running away at night.

Unlike hunters, plant-eating mammals, such as horses and cows commonly have wide vision. Their eyes are on the sides of their head. This lets them look all around for predators, even while they are eating grass.
