Barbie is famous around the world. Little girls love her long, beautiful hair and big, twinkling eyes. In fact, Barbie is the best-selling doll in history. Today, a Barbie doll is sold every three seconds.

바비 인형은 전 세계적으로 유명하다. 어린 소녀들은 그녀의 길고 아름다운 머리카락과 크고 반짝이는 눈을 좋아한다. 사실 바비 인형은 역사상 가장 잘 팔리는 인형이다. 오늘날 바비 인형은 3초에 하나씩 판매 된다.

 

The inventor of Barbie was a businesswoman named Ruth Handler. She got the idea while she was watching her daughter Barbara playing. There were plastic baby dolls all around her. But she was not interested in them. Instead, she was making clothes for paper dolls. Ruth realized that a new kind of doll was needed. So, in 1959, she created a grown-up fashion doll for young girls. And she named it “Barbie” after her daughter. The doll was a huge hit.

Barbie dolls now represent more than 150 careers and 40 nationalities. Collecting them is a popular hobby for children and even adults. People buy and sell rare Barbie dolls for thousands of dollars. A German woman has the world’s largest collection. She has over 15,000 different Barbie dolls.
